No note for vote' campaign on ATMs

The slogan for Tamil Nadu is 100 per cent enrollment and 100 per cent voting depicted as #TN100percent in the social media.

Coimbatore: All the 9,000 ATM screens in the Coimbatore district now display a common message: “No note for vote.” With the Assembly election just a week away and Tamil Nadu emerging notorious for bribing voters, the Election Commission has undertaken a systematic voter education and electoral participation (SVEEP) initiatives to ensure inclusive and ethical participation of the public in the assembly election.

The slogan for Tamil Nadu is 100 per cent enrollment and 100 per cent voting depicted as #TN100percent in the social media. “Low cost, high visibility” initiatives of the EC include SVEEP messages on all ATM screens. “The EC has asked the banks to display the slogan “No note for vote” on the ATM screen saver.

Nearly, 9000 ATMs of various banks are displaying this slogan in the district from Monday. The EC has asked the bank administration to display these SVEEP initiatives on a day before the poll.

But banks have started a SVEEP awareness campaign even earlier.” said a senior bank officer, who works with the SBI Saibaba colony branch. The EC has also partnered with Twitter and Facebook; the social media users will get reminders on poll day. Twitter will also send alerts on poll day. Apart from this, “No note for vote” awareness campaign is successfully running in shopping bags of the supermarkets and milk packets.

The BSNL will play SVEEP jingle on May 15th –and May 16th days caller tune. The district election officials have planned to cover the elderly people and old age homes in the district under SVEEP initiatives.
