Pinarayi Vijayan predicts surprise win in capital

Pinarayi said Divakaran’s strong stand against communalism and communal forces will hold him in good stead during the polls.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said the response of the people in the constituency clearly indicated that the LDF candidate C. Divakaran was heading for a victory.

At rallies organised in various parts of the constituency , the Chief Minister said the change was visible in Thiruvnanthapuram already. There has been massive enthusiasm in every nook and corner of the constituency after Mr Divakaran’s candidature. “He is a local man, a popular leader and someone who intervenes in the affairs of the district effectively. As a minister, trade union and youth leader his contribution is remarkable,” he said.

Mr Pinarayi said Divakaran’s strong stand against communalism and communal forces will hold him in good stead during the polls. People cutting across religion, caste and other differences are coming forward to support the LDF candidate and this was evident from the groundswell of support.

The Chief Minister rejected the prediction of poll surveys. Surveys conducted by news agencies had given edge to the Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor and NDA candidate Kumma-nam Rajashekharan.

However, Pinarayi said the joy of those rejoicing over surveys, would last only till May 23.
