DMK, Cong fighting to help Siddhu regain power: Pon Radhakrishnan

Pon Radhakrishnan has accused M. K. Stalin of leading the Cauvery agitation unnecessarily even as the Supreme Court is handling the issue.

Chennai: Trying to take the Cauvery fight into the DMK camp and thereby defend the BJP in the attack from the Dravidian parties, Union minister of state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has accused DMK working president M. K. Stalin of leading the Cauvery agitation unnecessarily even as the Supreme Court is handling the issue.

“These people are fighting for getting (Chief Minister) Siddaramaiah back to power in Karnataka. There cannot be a more foolish act and a worse betrayal of the Tamils being done by the DMK,” the BJP minister said on Monday. Lashing out at the DMK and its allies for staging agitations across Tamil Nadu demanding the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), Mr Radhakrishanan asked, “whom are they agitation against?”

“The DMK and other opposition parties’ agitations are merely aimed at fooling the people of Tamil Nadu. It (protest) is nothing but a drama. Why is the DMK which is staging protests against the Centre, not questioning the Karnataka Congress government’s stand on Cauvery? Who prevented it from criticising the Congress government?” Mr Radhakrishnan asked while speaking to reporters here on Monday.

Will you stop marriages, sporting events? Flaying Mr Stalin for asking the people to boycott the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in Chennai, Mr. Radhakrishnan wondered if one would go to any extent to stop all marriages from happening till the CMB is formed. “Will you stop all marriages from being conducted? I don’t have interest in IPL and can’t accept it on certain issues, but there are people who love it. Some even love football. Should all sports events be stopped over Cauvery issue? How can one justify a person’s rant? It is foolish. Where are they heading to?” he asked.
