26 seats for GK Vasan in Captain Vijayakant's team

Tamil Maanila Congress led by G K Vasan on Saturday joined the DMDK-People's Welfare Alliance to fight the May 16 assembly elections.

Chennai: Tamil Maanila Congress led by G K Vasan on Saturday joined the DMDK-People’s Welfare Alliance to fight the May 16 assembly elections and was allotted 26 seats.

Mr Vasan, who met DMDK president Vijayakant along with leaders of the PWA – Vaiko, Thol Thirumavalavan, G Ramakrishnan and Mutharasan, termed the agreement between the parties “historic” and said it was the “foundation for change of government in Tamil Nadu after a gap of 50 long years”.

After long deliberations with his party colleagues for the past two days after the AIADMK had agreed for alliance but insisted on the TMC fighting on the AIADMK’s two-leaves symbol, Mr Vasan has chosen to join hands with the PWA, despite protests from senior colleagues Peter Alphonse and S R Balasubramanian, who skipped the Vijayakant-Vasan meeting.
