Akbaruddin Owaisi sworn in as Protem Speaker of Telangana Assembly

Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has taken oath as the Protem Speaker of the Telangana Assembly. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to Owaisi at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is believed to have spoken to AICC general secretary KC Venugopal before allocation of portfolios to the ministers.

The BJP stayed away from the swearing-in ceremony, while former Speaker Pocharam Srinivas, Harish Rao and Gutta Sukhender Reddy of the BRS attended the programme. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was also present.

It is pertinent to note that Revanth’s cabinet will have 51 ministers. Of them, three are women and eight are first-time MLAs from Karimnagar district, two from Medak district. Of the total 51, 18 MLAs are first-timers making foray into politics.

Newly-elected MLAs take oath

The first session of the Third Telangana Assembly began here on Saturday and the oath-taking process of the newly-elected MLAs is underway.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was the first to take oath, followed by deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi presided over the proceedings as the pro-tem Speaker.
