Audiogate: Congress to petition Ramnath Kovind

Siddaramaiah charged that going by the audio tape, Mr Shah was responsible for the resignations of the Congress and JD(S) MLAs.

Mysuru: The state Congress plans to meet President Ramnath Kovind to demand the dismissal of Chief Minister Yediyurappa and home minister Amit Shah over the leaked audio tape of a BJP meeting, which, it claims, provides ample evidence of the party bringing down the Kumaraswamy government with the help of the disqualified legislators.

Revealing his here on Friday, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah charged that going by the audio tape, Mr Shah was responsible for the resignations of the Congress and JD(S) MLAs, who toppled the coalition government.

“He took care of the disqualified MLAs in Mumbai. In the tape, Mr Yeddyurappa has revealed that he carried out Operation Lotus on his orders. They have come to power illegitimately. Mr Shah has defeated the very purpose of the anti- defection law. Should such a person remain in power?” he demanded.

On the demand of few leaders that former minister, D K Shivakumar should become the next Chief Minister, he said, "Those are their personal views.”

Asked if JD(S) leaders were being soft on the BJP, he said, “You must ask them.”

In response to a query on the ban on private Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Mysuru, Mr Siddaramaiah said, “It is very wrong. Even the court has said that private celebrations should not be stopped. It has also asked them to re-examine the decision to ban the celebrations altogether without proper reason. There is no legal hurdle to prevent the celebrations.”
