We're being ignored in Telangana, say BC leaders

To prevent this, the Congress should announce a BC leader as a Chief Minister candidate, Mr Goud said.

Hyderabad: BC leaders in the Congress staged a protest at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in Delhi on Thursday, saying the community was under-represented in Telangana state.

Speaking to mediapersons, TPCC OBC committee convener Ashok Goud said, “One single community is dominating the Congress in Telangana. All tickets are being issued to them. If a community with 4.2 per cent of the population is grabbing 42 seats, what about the BCs who are more than 50 per cent of the population? This particular community has hijacked the party in Telangana.”

Mr Goud said, “Though there are many cases against the leaders belonging to that community, they are grabbing the tickets. We are unable to get seats though we have a clean image.”

He said the party’s screening committee was filled with men from this community, and justice for BCs would not be done. To prevent this, the Congress should announce a BC leader as a Chief Minister candidate, Mr Goud said.

“We will meet Congress president Rahul Gandhi and inform him of the status If we are not allowed to meet Mr Gandhi, we will continue our protest in front of the AICC office,” Mr Goud said. “If the BCs are not given priority, we will come up with an action plan and not even allow the Congress to ask the votes of BCs.”

Congress leaders of Warangal West staged a protest at the Warangal party office demanding that the party nominate Mr Naini Rajendra Reddy, who they said had worked for the Congress for 25 years, instead of handing over the seat to the Telugu Desam.
