TRS leaders lobby to get posts for kin

Party workers resent family hegemony attempts.

Hyderabad: The scramble for party posts by kin and confidants of TRS leaders is getting more harried by the day. The lure of party posts is also resulting in battle-lines being drawn between the “original” TRS leaders and turncoats from Congress, Telugu Desam, BSP and other parties.

This is the situation, even as Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is said to be giving the final touches to the list of office-bearers of district TRS units.

These lists have Mr Rao’s own choices, besides inputs from Cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, ZP chairpersons and other party senior leaders besides intelligence and survey reports.

While this is going on, TRS leaders are busy making their moves. Take the classic case of Ranga Reddy and Vikarabad districts.

Transport minister P. Mahender Reddy, who hails from Tandur, now holds sway over the new Vikarabad district since his Tandur Assembly constituency is part of the district.

Mr Mahender Reddy’s wife Sunita Reddy is presently Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad chairperson and his brother Narender Reddy is an MLC.

According to TRS circles, the transport minister is moving heaven and earth to get Mr Narender Reddy nominated as Ranga Reddy district TRS president so that both brothers can hold sway over Vikarabad and Ranga Reddy districts!

“The CM should not consider their claim. How can an entire family hold control of two districts,” asked a party leader.

Speaker Madhusudhana Chary is trying to get his son named the Bhupalapally district party president.

In Medak district too, hegemony of families is on the horizon. Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy is reportedly trying hard to get her husband Devender Reddy made the party district chief.

TRS sources said while the choice of district party president and vice president is left to KCR, other office bearers posts are being divided among party leaders, including MPs and MLAs, and then recommended to Mr Rao.

In Khammam, a tussle is on between the “original” TRS leaders and those who have joined the party from the YSR Congress and other parties.

“New entrants into party are trying to take a big chunk of posts. When one of the original TRS leaders questioned them, pat came the reply “T-Movement is over. We are going to polls. We joined and strengthened the party. We should have a strong team to fight next elections”,” a TRS leader said.

YSR Congress-turned- TRS MP P. Srinivas Reddy, MLA Ajay Puvvada and other new entrants are calling the shots, the TRS leader said
