BJP can fight Tipu Jayanti in session: Dr G Parameshwar
Bengaluru: With hardly 42 hours left for Tipu Jayanti, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar said he was looking forward to the opposition BJP's support for the smooth conduct of the celebrations across the state on November 10.
"Everyone has the right to speak for or against any issue. But it is not correct on the part of BJP to oppose the celebrations for no reason", he said while addressing a news conference here on Tuesday.
The home minister said opposition parties were free to raise the issue during the winter session of the State Legislature which will be held in Belagavi from November 21 to December 2. It was unbecoming on the part of BJP to vitiate the atmosphere by holding protests across the State over Tipu's birth anniversary celebrations. As a precaution, the state had requisitioned additional police force from other states. Besides, the Centre had been requested to send para-military forces to Karnataka. "We will not keep quiet if any one tries to disturb law and order, stern action will be taken against them", he warned.
On the murder of a BJP activist in Bidar, Dr Parameshwar said it was not correct on the part of BJP to say those who were murdered belonged to the saffron party or RSS. There would be no end if BJP starts claiming that anyone who dies under unnatural circumstances is their worker.
About the drowning of two stunt actors during the shooting of a Kannada movie at Tippagondanahalli tank, he termed the incident as unfortunate and said a team of experts from Mangaluru have reached the spot on Tuesday to recover the bodies.
