Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh splits hair over OBC quota

Defending demonetisation, he said that earlier, there was a big divide between the rich and the poor.

Bengaluru: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the constitutional status for the OBC Commission will be a reality once the NDA gets majority in the Rajya Sabha.

At a BJP rally for the Vishwa Karmi community on Sunday, he said that the Centre has already constituted a committee to categorise reservation for various communities under OBCs.

“In Karnataka, there are over 109 backward communities under the OBC category. Though they have 30% reservation, only a handful of communities are reaping the benefits. This is great injustice and it should be rectified,”he said.

“PM Narendra Modi wanted to give Constitutional status to the OBC Commission. Though the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, the Congress ensured that it was defeated in the Rajya Sabha. However, in the coming days, Mr Modi will ensure that the bill is also passed in the Rajya Sabha,”he said.

“The other communities among OBCs need not go with a begging bowl to anyone. It is their right and it is the government’s duty to ensure that their rights are conferred to them,” he said.

Defending demonetisation, he said that earlier, there was a big divide between the rich and the poor. The money was stored among a few rich people, while others struggled to have two square meals. Demonetisation has reduced that divide.
