Beat corrupt officials with chappals: Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday issued some strange instructions to the people of Telangana state. He told them to beat corrupt officials with chappals!
Mr Rao was addressing Singareni Collieries workers at Pragathi Bhavan on Sunday to thank them after the TRS-affiliated union won the recent elections to become the official union of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, a public sector undertaking. Some of the colliery workers referred to the rampant corruption in the coal company.
“Workers are forced to pay a bribe of Rs 6 lakh to seek unfit certificate from the medical board. They are forced to bribe even to obtain leave when they suffer from fever. Bribes are demanded for changing residential quarters for staff. From tomorrow, no one should pay any bribes. If anyone demands bribes or anyone pays bribes, beat both of them with chappals,” Mr Rao told the workers.
The CM apologised to the workers for not focusing on their problems during the 40-month rule of the TRS government.
“When the TBGKS won the elections in 2012 for the first time, we were in Undivided AP and our party was not in power. We could not resolve your major problems on account of this. Though we came to power in 2014, we were busy dealing with other major problems concerning the state. I express my apologies for this.”
