Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Congress party would launch its membership drive in the state on September 15 from Mahabubnagar.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Mr. Reddy said that the membership drive was being launched at the instruction of party High Command. He said that those getting Congress membership would also be provided with Life Insurance and the responsibility to work out the scheme has been assigned to CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and ex-MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy.

Mr Reddy said that the Congress party has also decided to organise grand celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

He said that the Congress cadre would propagate the ideologies and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi to every locality and household in Telangana state. He said training programmes for all party workers were being designed at district-level. The TPCC President said that the public health system has collapsed in Telangana state with thousands of people getting affected with seasonal and other viral diseases.

He also slammed the TRS government for the ongoing shortage of urea. He said farmers were being forced to stand in long queues for several hours to get urea. He said one farmer lost his life while standing in a long queue for urea. Despite the death of one farmer, he said that neither the TRS government in the state nor the BJP Government at the centre took any measures to resolve the crisis. He said the delay in arranging the required quantity of urea has exposed the negligent attitude of the TRS and BJP governments towards the farmers.
