Bengaluru: Congress in revival mode, plans rallies against BJP

He contended that by focusing on the flood situation, the party is trying to build a rapport with farmers as well as the rural masses.

Bengaluru: In a determined effort to revive its fortunes and keep the heat going on the ruling BJP, the Congress party state unit is planning to launch a series of state- wide campaigns soon.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader said, “Already former chief minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC working president Eshwar Khandre and KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao are in touch with senior leaders as well as intellectuals to take the BJP government head-on.”

The source added that the state unit is planning to corner the BJP on three fronts – its failure to tackle floods, unemployment and the sliding economy and thirdly, issues like increase in traffic penalties as well as potholes in Bengaluru.

He contended that by focusing on the flood situation, the party is trying to build a rapport with farmers as well as the rural masses. By focusing on joblessness and the economy, the party aims to draw educated youth and by highlighting the traffic penalty issue, it hopes to tap the urban poor.

All three leaders have held preliminary discussions with industry bigwigs and trade unions like those in the Peenya industrial area and electronic industrial area but nothing is confirmed yet, the source said.

“The party's aim is to cover the voter base as wide as possible. The party cannot afford to dream that the BJP's failures will automatically ensure a Congress comeback. We need to come out of this mindset as early as possible,” the leader contended.

Another leader told this newspaper that with the arrest of former Union finance minister P. Chidambaram, the top brass has directed the respective state units to gear up and launch a series of campaigns to highlight the failures of PM Modi wherever the Congress is in power and pinpoint the mistakes of the ruling BJP wherever the Congress is in the Opposition.

“With Karnataka falling in the second category, the leaders from Delhi have asked Congress leaders here to evolve their own campaigns to attract people,” the source explained.
