What's wrong in aligning with BJP, asks AIADMK minister

The AIADMK had partnered with the BJP twice for the Lok Sabha elections.

Chennai: Dairy minister Rajendra Balaji caused a minor excitement on Friday declaring there's nothing wrong in his AIADMK party aligning with the BJP. The AIADMK had partnered with the BJP twice for the Lok Sabha elections and even participated in the BJP-led Union Government, he said, adding that even the DMK had been a BJP ally in the past.

"I am not aware if the BJP is talking to us (on alliance), but there is nothing wrong if an alliance emerges. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is toiling to make India strong; so why look at him with narrow-mindedness? He has done no wrong", the minister told reporters after releasing new varieties of Aavin milk and ice cream.

Recalling that both the AIADMK and the DMK had been poll partners of the BJP and even participated in the BJP-led Governments at the Centre, he asked, "Does the BJP suddenly taste bitter now?"

Asked if the AIADMK could win the coming local body polls if it teamed up with the BJP, the minister quipped: "We will win with whoever we align". Pressed further, he said the final call on such an alliance would have to be taken by 'senior leaders' Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Deputy CM O. Panneerselvam.
