Chennai: DMK councillors walk out of corporation council meet

During the past five years, the media reports were converted in to official files and the corporation attended the same.

Chennai: The opposition DMK on Thursday walked out of the corporation council meet twice alleging that the mayor was not permitting the opposition councillors to discuss dengue, monsoon precaution and poor roads.

DMK floor leader Subash Chandra Bose told reporters that the mayor is focused on showering encomiums on the state government and does not permit councillors to discuss issues pertaining to Chennai.

Earlier in the day, the DMK walked out of the council after the mayor made a veiled attack against the previous DMK regime that it was interested in opening up more Tasmac liquor shops in city.

Responding to the DMK councillors, Mr Duraisamy urged the media not to entertain the opposition as they were playing politics wasting the council’s time.

“What is wrong in praising a chief minister, who had allocated above Rs 16,000 crore for the civic body to improve its infrastructure in the past five years,” he said.

During the past five years, the media reports were converted in to official files and the corporation attended the same.

So far 12,800 newspaper files were circulated among the corporation officials instructing them to attend the civic issues raised by the media houses, he said.

Mr Duraisamy also announced that there was no incidence of dengue in Chennai and added that a precautionary system was in place to prevent any epidemic outbreak.
