Special Status: Perni Slams Chiranjeevi

VIJAYAWADA: Former minister Perni Venkataramaiah MLA has come down heavily against cine actor Chiranjeevi for his comments on Special Category Status, projects, roads, jobs and employment.

“Movies and politics are two different things and we cannot club both. No politician has spoken about the remuneration of Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Mahesh Babu or Ram Charan,” he said.

Chiranjeevi, during the Waltair Veeraiah 200 day celebrations, indirectly indicated to the YSRC high-command, “People like you should think about special status, construction of roads, projects, employment opportunities. We should think about feeding the poor. If you do, everyone will bow to you. Why are you using the Brahmastra on a sparrow like the Telugu film industry?”

Addressing the media on Tuesday, the MLA said that as a person he is a fan of actor Chiranjeevi, while pursuing Engineering, he used to garland the hero poster. He appealed to Chiranjeevi to watch a movie as a movie and should see politics as politics. He reminded that none of the politicians spoke about any cinema actor till now.

The MLA said that, a ruling party leader (minister Ambati Ramababu) danced with the people to celebrate Sankranti festival. “The same was depicted in the movie to criticise and insult that leader without any relevance of the character in the movie.”

“The characters are created only to tease that leader and they are facing the music,” stated the MLA.

Taking on Chandrababu, the former minister said that the violence in Punganur was pre-planned by the TD chief. “In a more desperate manner, mobs from neighbouring districts and constituencies were brought with stones, sticks, rods, bottles in cars, jeeps, trucks to create arson and kill at least one or two policemen, so that 10 Telugu Desam Party activists would die in police firing.”

“Naidu has understood that Telugu Desam would lose the 2024 elections and was hence stooping to such low levels. The Punganur incident is an example of Naidu’s frustration at creating a law and order problem.”

The MLA said Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh were criticising the Chittoor SP for foiling their plan. “Without police bandobast, neither the father nor the son (Naidu and Lokesh) can come out openly. Chandrababu conspired to attack the police.”

He said that Naidu wanted to come to power by hook or crook in the coming elections and was resorting to such cheap tricks.
