Hyderabad: Congress to bet on BCs, Muslims

Mr Reddy told party cadre to “expose” the “anti-BC face” of the TRS government.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Congress has decided to give half the tickets in the ensuing municipal elections to BC and Muslim candidates. This was decided at a meeting of senior leaders chaired by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Speaking to the media, he criticised Chief Mini-ster K. Chandrasekhar Rao for slashing the reservation percentage for Backward Classes and demanded the community should be given reservations in proportion to their population.

Mr Reddy told party cadre to “expose” the “anti-BC face” of the TRS government.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief said that the Congress was quite strong and had the potential to win a majority of municipal bodies. He extended the programme to hoist Congress flags till August 19. He asked party cadre to go to every doorstep and campaign for the party.

Mr Reddy described Union home minister Amit Shah’s criticism of the process to form Telangana state — “by closing the doors of Parliament” — as unwarranted. He said it was normal process that the doors of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are closed when Bills are passed.
