Opposition seeks action on ministers in I-T list sent to CS

Pressure mounts on Girija in absence of vigilance commissioner.

Chennai: Leaders including DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday demanded action on ministers and MLAs found in the diary of sand mining baron Sekhar Reddy since the list had been sent to chief secretary Girija Vaidhayanathn for further action.

Stalin demanded action by Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on ministers and MLAs, while PMK founder S. Ramadoss and CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan demanded that the chief secretary release the names in the list and order a probe into the allegations.

The I-T department had sent the details of those who received money from Sekhar Reddy to the chief secretary and requested her to take action, the DMK working president said.

He alleged that both factions of the AIADMK are involved in corrupt activities.
Since the post of vigilance commissioner remains vacant, the chief secretary is holding the responsibility for the post.

The documents seized from Sekhar Reddy’s house revealed that the ministers had received Rs 300 crore from the sand mining baron, he added. Ramadoss said several suspicions are raised since no action has been taken on the I-T report sent to the chief secretary and asked, “Why is the chief secretary hesitant in enquiring ministers who had been charged with receiving money from Sekhar Reddy?”

Mutharasan cited media reports that the list sent by the I-T department to the chief secretary contains the names of higher officials besides ministers and MLAs.

He also asked if this is the reason for Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami’s appeal to ministers not to criticise the government.

He asked “What action has been taken by the government on the ministers till now? Why is there no transparency in the action taken? Are there efforts from the accused to escape from charges together?” Mutharasan also asked why the I-T department did not release the names send it to the state government itself.
