Chennai: Days ahead of the state elections, city residents have complaints about issues plaguing the voter ID application process and of names being dropped from electoral rolls.

“I had applied for a new voter ID in March. Initially, the online services seemed good but upon tracking my application, I found that despite the application being processed, I wasn’t assigned an ID number,” said S. Abhinav, a resident of Kodambakkam.

His wife, who applied for the ID 20 days after he did, got her voter ID, though. According to Abhinav, the toll-free number 1950 was of little help. “I was asked to visit the zonal office, where I was not treated well nor were my queries answered,” he said. When a top official on election duty from the city Corporation was contacted, he assured that he would look into the matter.
