P Chidambaram optimistic about DMK-led alliance poll win

The alliance never lost in all the five general elections.

Chennai: Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has hoped that the DMK-led Madhacharbatra Murpokku Kootani (Secular Progressive Alliance) will register a thumping win in the LS poll in the State.

Addressing an election rally in Alandur in support of DMK candidate for Sriperumbudur LS Constituency, TR Baalu on Monday, Chidambaram said that for the first time the Congress under the leadership of Indira Gandhi forged an alliance with DMK under M Karunanidhi in 1971. Subsequently, Congress joined hands with DMK in 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2009 during the Parliament polls. The alliance never lost in all the five general elections. Similarly, the DMK-led alliance will register a thumping win in the 2019 LS poll, he added.

All the constituents in the DMK-led alliance are wedded to the ideals of leaders including EVR Periyar, Kamarajar, Anna, Rajaji, M Karunanidhi, Quaid-E-Millet and Jeeva.
