DMK to support April 11 PMK-led shutdown
Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced his party’s support to the bandh called by PMK on April 11 to demand that the central government constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) immediately.
According to Mr. Stalin, PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss had requested support of all political parties for the strike. His party was of the strong view that the Centre should be made to hear the united voice of Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue. Hence, the DMK would extend its support to Wednesday’s shutdown, he said.
DMK is reciprocating PMK’s gesture in supporting the DMK-led bandh over the Cauvery issue on April 5. The state-wide agitation derailed normal life in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Stalin, who is leading the Cauvery Rights Retrieval March, said black flags would be shown at Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visits the City on April 12 to inaugurate DefExpo 2018.
On Friday, Dr Ramadoss had appealed to political parties, farmers and traders to support the April 11 Tamil Nadu bandh which would be led by his son and MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss. “It is the duty of all Tamil people to mount huge pressure on the Centre to make it constitute the Cauvery Management Board which has not been done as per the Supreme Court order,” he had said.
