You still have chance to enrol as voter, says EC
Chennai: The public should check out online whether their names are found in the voters’ list to avoid complaints about missing names on the polling date, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Nazim Zaidi, has said.
Still people have time to appeal for enrollment as voters and the public should make use of online and real time facilities provided. Expressing satisfaction on the overall arrangement made by the Tamil Nadu Government and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Lakhoni, he urged voters to exercise their franchise without fail. All facilities like drinking water, wash rooms, electricity and wheelchairs will be in place. This election, 12,000 wheel chairs will be used to help the needy, he said.
Pointing out that so far six lakh names had been deleted from voters list due to multiple entries and deaths, he said there are ‘no bogus voters’ as claimed by political parties. Most of them are multiple entries.
When asked about the controversial remark by MDMK leader Vaiko that the AIADMK had stashed cash in a Siruthavoor bungalow, the CEC said the police and district election officials have been instructed to follow up the matter and they have collected some information. “I cannot share the details on the issue”.
The Election Commission is committed to providing a level-playing field for all political parties in Tamil Nadu.
The district election officers have been instructed to keep the media posted on all poll developments and arrangements, he said.
When asked about the action taken on DMK’s petition to EC alleging that top police and IAS officers were biased, the CEC told Deccan Chronicle that not only DMK, other political parties also had submitted memorandum in this regard. The complaints are forwarded to the CEO for perusal and action.
