Public unable to get certificates
Chennai: With revenue officials busy with poll duty, the public is finding it difficult to get community, income and legal heir certificates in several parts of north and western Chennai. According to official sources, there are 126 e-seva centre in Chennai with temporary staff on duty.
Delay in payment to temporary staff at the centres is also stated to be a reason for the poor service rendered to public. In some seva centres, public response to plastic Aadhaar card is overwhelming, but there is a lack of supply of new cards.
Further, the internet server also lacks speed delaying the registration process, informed sources told Deccan Chronicle. “Initially, e-seva centes in Ambattur were doing good service but now they have lost steam and it is a fact that issue of certificates is getting delayed as usual. The concept of e-seva centres has improved only the registration process, but not the delivery of certificates to applicants”, said Congress councillor P.V. Thamizhselvan of Ambattur.
A common complaint is that the internet servers at e seva centres are too slow, he added. “Last week, I approached the e-seva centre near Nehru Stadium to get a community certificate for my son with my original community certificate, ration card and my son’s birth certificate. The staff demanded my school transfer certificate. This is not common sense. When I have an original community certificate (BC category) what stops them from issuing the same to
my son. The staff just go by a protocol that has been advised for registrations”, said a resident in Egmore.
“Aadhaar cards, patta, nativity, community and income certificates are provided to residents at a nominal charge of '50 and e-seva centres have certainly improved the situation.” The public always exaggerated minor technical delays, a revenue official said.
