No question of my resignation, says Uttam Kumar Reddy

TPCC chief Uttam Kumar said Congress leaders getting suspicious about the accuracy of EVMs that electronically counted votes in GHMC polls.

Hyderabad: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday ruled out his resignation while some other party leaders quit their posts owning moral responsibility for the party’s debacle in the GHMC polls as also the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll.

During an interaction with the media in Medak district, Uttam Kumar Reddy was asked whether he would quit the post.

He replied, “No one has demanded my resignation. I never said I would resign if my party fares badly in the polls. I have not held out any such challenge. Hence the question of my resignation from the PCC post doesn’t arise.”

He said Congress leaders were getting suspicious about the accuracy of the EVMs that electronically counted the votes in the GHMC polls.

They felt that there were deliberate attempts at tampering the EVMs to favour candidates of the ruling TRS and its ally the MIM. The Congress has already lodged a complaint with the Election Commission in Delhi, he said, and demanded paper ballot system for the Narayankhed Assembly bypoll on February 13.

Leader of Opposition in Telangana legislative council Shabbir Ali too raised the matter at a separate press conference and demanded that the EC look into the complaints.

“It is for the Election Commission and the state government to clarify on our doubts,” he said.

TPCC accepts Danam, Mallesh resignations

On direction from AICC, state Congress chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy accepted the resignations of Danam Nage-nder and Kyama Mallesh — Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy DCC presidents — from their posts on Monday. This follows the party's poor show in the GHMC polls.

It was Danam Nagender who first sent in his resignation to AICC owning moral responsibility for the poll debacle, and this was followed by the Ranga Reddy DCC chief.

The TPCC president, now on the Narayankhed bypoll campaign, was told by AICC to accept the resignations.

The Congress had contested 149 out of the 150 divisions in the GHMC polls and ended up with winning two seats — Patancheru and Nacharam.
