Telangana: Akbaruddin Owaisi Appointed Pro-tem Speaker

Revanth's speech reflected commitment to transparency, inclusivity of both leaders and the public in Telangana's growth

Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi will be the new pro-tem Speaker for the Assembly and will conduct the swearing-in of the MLAs-elect in the Assembly.

Owaisi, who won from Chandrayangutta for his sixth electoral victory, will be the pro-tem Speaker until the House will elect a full time Speaker. This will be the second time that an AIMIM legislator will the pro-tem Speaker. In 2018, this responsibility was discharged by Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, then MLA from Charminar.

Owaisi is scheduled to take oath in his new responsibility by Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan at the Raj Bhavan at 8.30 am on Saturday. Afterwards he will proceed to the Assembly where he will conduct the proceedings of the new House.

Once all the MLAs complete the swearing in process, a date will be fixed for electing a full-time Speaker. The Congress has already made its pick for the position, choosing Gaddam Prasad Kumar, a Dalit leader who was elected from Vikarabad.

Former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao who was elected to the new House from Gajwel will not be attending the session as he is in hospital with a broken hip.
