Hyderabad: Votes cast, now 72-hour wait begins for people's verdict

This time, the results of the Assembly elections will be known before noon on December 11.

Hyderabad: The fate of 1,821 candidates, including the main contenders, the TRS and the Congress-led People’s Front, was sealed in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) at the end of polling on Friday.

The results will be kown before noon on December 11, when the votes are counted. After the polling ended, the TRS and People’s Front leaders said they were confident of coming to power.

In the 2014 Assembly elections, the TRS came to power by winning 63 seats out of 119. Polling was held on April 30, 2014, and in the Seemandhra region, on May 7, 2014.

The results were declared on May 16, 2014, after a half-a-month wait for Telangana voters.

The wait is shorter this time. It will be known on Tuesday whether caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will get another term or, to quote him, be confined to his farmhouse with the defeat of the TRS, whether IT minister K.T. Rama Rao will play a key role in the TRS government or quit politics as he has announced and whether TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy will get to shave his beard or not.

Recently, while speaking to mediapersons, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said he would not step into Gandhi Bhavan, the TS Congress headquarters, if the party did not come to power in the Assembly elections. The next day, he said it was just a joke.
