Collector defends decision to stop Stalin going to Kacharyan Kuttai
Chennai: DMK party's working president M.K.Stalin has not been permitted to visit Kacharyan Kuttai considering the current unrest situation at Erumapatti village in Edappady taluk, Salem district collector has informed Madras high court.
Salem district collector V. Sampath said this in his counter affidavit filed in response to the petition filed by DMK by its legal wing secretary R. Girirajan, seeking to restrain the state government from preventing or interrupting the visit of Stalin anywhere in the state for visiting water bodies under desilting process by DMK cadres.
Justice M.Duraiswamy, before whom the counter affidavit was filed, posted to August 8, further hearing of the case.
The collector sought the relief without any infringement of any fundamental right of Stalin would act as a free ticket given to him to enter into any part of the state at any time unmindful of the law and order situation and public unrest that may prevail there and thereby would entitle him to create further breach of law and order.
He said de-silting of water bodies has been undertaken by the government under "Kudimaramathu works" since March 2017. Since the said work was not carried out for a long time, the storage capacity of the water bodies has diminished by a great extent.
The government adopted the scheme of desilting of water bodies to allow farmers and other eligible persons to take the silt from such water bodies for free thereby restoring the storage capacity of the same.
However, DMK has been trying to hijack the scheme launched by the government for public welfare.
Hence, it was imperative on the part of the government to take swift actions in respect of preventing perilous incidents posing a threat to peace and tranquility and public harmony of the state.
