Kerala Assembly Elections: Football match to woo voters
The football match also tries to encourage to make the election green.

MALAPPURAM: Novel ideas for electioneering are not confined to the political parties alone. The district election authorities in Malappuram have come up with a football match to woo the maximum number of voters to the polling stations on May 16, touching the right chords in Malappuram.
A friendly football match will be played between Kerala Police Eleven and Malappuram Eleven at Kottappadi stadium at 5. 30 p.m. on Sunday as part of the election commission’s Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative.
Interestingly, the priority will be given to the viewers when it comes to the distribution of rewards. The authorities believe that the football match, which is the most popular in Malappuram, would make an impact on the voters, especially the youths. A blend of veteran and young footballers will be the prime attraction of the match.
Veteran footballers, including former Indian captain I.M. Vijayan, U. Sharafali and C.V. Papachan will be in the field for Kerala Police Eleven team. V.V. Shashi, Habeeb Rahman and Kurikesh Mathew will also be part of the police team. With a handful of promising young players, the Malappuram Eleven line up is all set to bounce the police team.
The emerging players who proved their mettle in club football tournaments will add charm to the team. Players like Rafeeq Hasan, Jafar Cheemadan, Surendran Mankada, Super Ashraf and O.P. Rasheed are with the team. The representatives of the district administration, election authorities, police and Shuchitwa Mission will also be present among the viewers.
