HYDERABAD: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Hyderabad on Saturday to lay the foundation stones for projects worth more than Rs 11,000 crore, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka asked him to explain the number of funds allocated and released for Telangana, as well as the projects undertaken by the Centre for the development of the state.
While the Union government made promises in Parliament to provide funds for Telangana's development, the CLP leader questioned how many of the promises in the AP Reorganisation Act were fulfilled.
"The Prime Minister helped his home state of Gujarat by providing funds for a railway coach factory. The Centre promised to build a railway coach plant in Kazipet, but this was put on hold. The PM must specify when the works on the Bayyaram steel plant will begin,” Bhatti asked.
The CLP leader asked the PM when the Centre would grant national status to irrigation projects in Telangana. He questioned why the Centre did not order a CBI investigation into the cost escalation and alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project, as well as into the irregularities that took place in ESI and Sahara when Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was Union minister.
The BJP government at the Centre had failed to offer subsidies for Telangana's industrial sector, Bhatti said and demanded a tribal university in the state as well as a turmeric board in Nizamabad as promised by BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind.
