Maoists threaten Paderu MLA

The letter was issued in the name of east division secretary of the CPI (Maoists) Aruna

Visakhapatnam: The outlawed Maoists threatened Paderu MLA K Bhagyalakshmi with dire consequences if she did not give up her support to bauxite mining in Chaparai village under GK Veedhi mandal. The threat letter has become viral in the social media in the agency.

The letter was issued in the name of east division secretary of the CPI (Maoists) Aruna. Citing survey numbers and extent to which bauxite mining was being taken up in the name of laterite mine, Aruna told the MLA that she would face the consequences similar to former Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao, who was punished by the people's court.

She asked the MLA to resign from the assembly and leave the agency for good.

The MLA was not available for comment but her family members said the letter was not issued by the Maoists. Some vested interests working against the MLA posted the letter to instill fear in her. No additional police security was provided to her, family members said.

“We shall assume it as a threat until investigation reveals otherwise,’’ said superintendent of police B. Krishna Rao. He said security is in place and increase it after the investigation report.
