D Jayakumar: Our alliance doors still open for DMDK

The minister's reaction follows the DMDK's denial of DMK treasurer Duraimurugan's claim of knocking at the DMK doors for electoral pact.

CHENNAI: It appears that the ruling AIADMK has not give up its hope on the Vijayakanth’s DMDK. The alliance doors of the AIADMK are kept open for the DMDK to walk in, says party senior and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar.

“Our doors of alliance have not been closed. Let them come, talk and arrive at a good decision,” Jayakumar said and added without naming the DMK, that DMDK would never forget the insult meted out to them by that party. In his inimitable style, D. Jayakumar related the alliance and upcoming Lok Sabha elections to the “Boeing 737 all ready to take off to Delhi.” “The tickets have been issued and we have all occupied our seats as the flight is all set to take off soon. The DMDK needs only to collect the boarding pass now to catch the flight. So, the DMDK ought to decide,” he told reporters here on Thursday.

The minister’s reaction follows the DMDK’s denial of DMK treasurer Duraimurugan’s claim of knocking at the DMK doors for electoral pact. “We spoke to DMK 10 days ago and not on Wednesday as claimed by Duraimurugan,” DMDK deputy general secretary L.K. Sudeesh clarified on Thursday and said the talks between the AIADMK and his party have reached the concluding stage and that the number of seats and constituencies would be announced in a couple of days time. The DMDK leader also claimed the alliance could not be announced on Wednesday due to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters after distributing welfare aid to the public in Lakshmipuram village in Theni district on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said many parties are likely to join the AIADMK combine soon. “There are fair chances for several parties to join the AIADMK-led front in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he said without naming them.
