Verdict a fitting reply to CPM arrogance: Antony
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress party on Wednesday tore apart the LDF government after it suffered a massive setback from the High Court transferring the S. P. Shuhaib murder case to the CBI.
CWC member A. K. Antony welcomed it as "the death knell for the CPM's murder politics."
More than their murder politics, he said, the court verdict was a fitting reply to their arrogance and a "huge disgrace".
"Law minister A. K. Balan had claimed neither the party nor the government had got anything to hide and was open to any probe by any agency, only to retract it later," he said.
KPCC president M. M. Hassan sought chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's resignation "with immediate effect" as the court has expressed mistrust in his home ministry.
"We hope the CBI investigation will be free and fair," he said. "The court's observation that the hands of the police are tied is serious."
His predecessor V. M. Sudheeran echoed, saying Mr Vijayan was protecting the murderers by resisting CBI probe.
Youth Congress chief Dean Kuriakose who sat in fast for a week here demanding the CBI to probe said, "It's much awaited by the public to book the conspirators. Mr Vijayan should go."
