Chennai: Petition filed to initiate criminal proceedings
CHENNAI: A petition has been filed in a Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Saidapet, to initiate criminal proceeding against BJP leader H. Raja for making remarks against EVR Periyar. An advocate A. Kasi of Kumaran Nagar filed the complaint before the XXIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Saidapet on Wednesday.
In the petition, Kasi stated that Raja wantonly made the comments to disturb peace and communal harmony and to provoke enmity among people. His remarks against Periyar, a social reformer, were intentional. He made the statements knowing very well that such comments would incite violence among the people. Hence, he must be punished under sections 153, 153-A and 504 of IPC. He also sought court to direct Kumarn Nagar police to initiate criminal proceedings against Raja for making the remarks.
