Bengaluru: With Assembly elections fast approaching, the opposition BJP is busy inducting prominent leaders and celebrities into the party. Several leaders including retired police officer B.N.S. Reddy joined the BJP here on Wednesday in the presence of BJP State President B.S. Yeddyurappa and party Karnataka in-charge Muralidhar Rao.

Mr Reddy was former additional commissioner of police and is a recipient of the President's police medal for distinguished service. He has been actively involved in social service after his retirement.

Former MLC and Congress leader Dayananda Reddy, former MLA and Congress leader Sunitha Veerappa Gowda, Congress leader Mallesh Gowda, film producer, Umesh Banakar and numerologist Jaya Srinivasan also joined the party. Giving the party flag to these leaders, Mr Yeddyurappa said their entry would strengthen the party base in and around Bengaluru.

He also came down heavily on the Congress government over the attack on Lokayukta Justice P. Vishwanath Shetty and said this only reflected the total collapse of law and order in the state.
