HYDERABAD: The Congress questioned the BRS government’s decision to move the Supreme Court seeking intervention in the poaching case. PCC senior vice president, G. Niranjan said that this move reflects a lack of trust in the investigating agencies.
The Telangana state government on Tuesday sought an urgent hearing in the Supreme Court on its appeal challenging the high court’s order for a CBI probe into alleged attempts to poach Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs.
Speaking to media persons, Niranjan said that the state government’s move seeking its intervention, in this case, impacts the credibility of investigating agencies in the country. He felt that this reflected a lack of trust in the performance of the agencies. “If those who are in government do not have faith in the investigating agencies, then what about the general public,” he asked.
Niranjan urged that the political parties ruling at the Centre and state change their attitude and uphold the prestige and integrity of the investigating agencies.
“The ruling BJP at the Centre might have tried to lure the MLAs. We are not denying it. But the entire episode including the role of police, the Chief Minister, setting up of the SIT, writing letters with video clippings to all the judges across the country has become controversial,” he said.
The Congress leader said that this matter is not in the interest of the public and then why the government was spending huge money on it. “Why should the state government sideline our Advocate General and opt for senior advocate Dushyant Dave from Delhi and pay him lakhs as fees? How will people benefit from it,” he asked.
