Prove majority, then present budget: PMK

PMK leader also demanded a detailed inquiry by the CBI to go into irregularities in the appointment of vice chancellors and their misdeeds.

KRISHNAGIRI: PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Wednesday said the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government should present the Budget for the year 2018-2019 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly only after proving its majority on the floor of the House.

Speaking to reporters here, Ramadoss said the government should not rush into presenting the Budget in the Assembly at a time when a case relating to disqualification of 18 MLAs owing allegiance to rebel AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran is pending before the Madras high court.

“It has been six months since the government lost its majority. The government is continuing only by using loopholes in the law. If the governor had ordered trust vote immediately after 18 MLAs had withdrawn their support to the Chief Minister, the government would have not survived,” Ramadoss told reporters.

“The government should present the Budget only after proving its numbers on the floor of the House. The Madras high court has reserved orders in the disqualification case and there is expectation that the verdict might come soon. So, the government should wait till then,” the PMK founder said.

He also alleged that there has been no forward movement in the case relating to corruption by suspended Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor A Ganapathi after his arrest. The PMK leader also demanded a detailed inquiry by the CBI to go into irregularities in the appointment of vice chancellors and their “misdeeds.”
