Parties urge Telangana government to curb food adulteration menace
Hyderabad: Parties expressed concern over rampant food adulteration and urged the government to curb the menace with an iron hand.
MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and BJP floor leader G. Kishan Reddy alleged that the government had failed to take effective measures to check food adulteration. They said there were just three officers to monitor 10,000 food establishments in the city.
Health minister C. Laxma Reddy said the TRS government had brought down food adulteration significantly over the past three years.
In 2014-15, 222 samples were analysed and 13 were found to be not conforming to standards. The figure for 2015-16 was 1,809 samples and 435. In 2016-17, 1,433 samples were analysed and 304 were found to be adulterated. This year so far, 3,788 samples were analysed and 250 were found to be adulterated. He said the government would increase manpower in the department and more laboratories would be set up.
