BJP not alternative force, says Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Caste-based politics and “negative mindset” were the reasons for the downfall of the Opposition, according to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Speaking to the media on Friday, after the TRS-backed union swept the Singareni Collieries union election, he ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claims that it would be the alternative to the TRS in the 2019 elections.
A party that could secure a mere 240 seats in the union election, he said, could never be an alternative force.
The TRS has won all elections with record margins since 2014, which shows the confidence the people have in the TRS. Despite this, Opposition parties continue to obstruct development plans, he said.
“Opposition parties are playing a destructive role. If they play a constructive role, they can win the confidence of the people,” he said.
Rao said, a leader of the stature of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy had made caste-based remarks against him, when he said that those who comprise less than five per cent of the population in the state are ruling the state.
“It’s not possible to become a leader based on caste. A leader should lead all the people. I became a leader due to my hard work and commitment to public life for the past four decades,” the CM remarked.
He accused Congress leaders of obstructing irrigation and all development projects, and even trying to block the ongoing land survey exercise to correct revenue records after eight decades.
“They complained to the Governor against the land survey. The Governor himself took a field trip and expressed happiness over the land survey,” the CM said.
