State BJP to invite Amit Shah on Sept 17

Party to celebrate Liberation Day.

Hyderabad: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership will be inviting BJP president Amit Shah to hoist the National Flag in Hyderabad to mark Liberation Day on September 17.

As part of its aggressive campaign against the state government, the state BJP has invited Mr Shah to hoist the Flag from Golconda Fort. September 17 marks the day the Nizam’s forces surrendered to the Indian Army.

Top BJP sources said this would have its own impact, coming soon after the BJP government at the Centre successfully revoked the portion of Article 370 that deals with Jammu and Kashmir.

At least two top leaders said in private that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government had been stymieing the party’s efforts to celebrate Liberation Day in a big way for the past five years.

This year, the leaders, said, the BJP will take it as a challenge as the party is getting support from across the state.

The BJP wants the state government to celebrate the day as a state festival. It points out that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has previously made a similar demand while in the Opposition but had ignored it after coming to power.

It has accused the TRS of ignoring the Hyd-erabad Liberation Day celebrations because of its alliance with the MIM. The state leadership is said to have asked the district leaders to make arrangements for celebration at their respective districts.

A senior leader on condition of anonymity said that the senior leaders from Delhi would make an official announcement with regard to the celebrations so as to energise the activists and the people more.
