CM Jayalalithaa presides over first Cabinet meeting

As the State government is gearing up to table the budget for this financial year, the meeting of the cabinet was held on Wednesday.

Chennai: The first cabinet meeting of the AIADMK government presided over by Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday is reported to have discussed issues related to the State budget this year.

The AIADMK government took over on May 23 and the Assembly session to discuss the motion to thank the Governor’s address was held for a week.

As the State government is gearing up to table the budget for this financial year, the meeting of the cabinet was held on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister is said to have elicited the views of individual ministers on the implementation of the party’s election manifesto and the new schemes by their department.

She also sought the details for the schemes including the expenses incurred on each scheme from the state finance secretary K. Shanmugam.

In the meeting which was held for over an hour, all the ministers, state chief secretary Rama Mohan Rao, adviser to state government Sheela Balakrishnan and officer on special duty to CM Office Shanta Sheela Nair participated. The announcement for the budget session is expected soon.
