Will be happy if BJP gets 271 seats on its own, says Ram Madhav

Modi has consistently said that there was no contest in 2019 and the NDA will win more than 300 seats.

Mumbai: While all BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah have been claiming that the BJP will win more 300 seats, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Monday hinted that the party may fall short of the majority mark in the next Lok Sabha.

In an interview given to a news agency, Mr Madhav said that the party will be “happy” if it wins 271 seats on its own. However, the BJP leader hoped that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) manages to secure majority in the next Lok Sabha.

In his various interviews before the Lok Sabha poll and electioin rallies, Mr Modi has consistently said that there was no contest in 2019 and the NDA will win more than 300 seats.

“My political experience says that there will be a lot of increase as compared to the past. Previously people had some doubts over who Modi is but now they know what Modi has done for country’s security for poor and on other issues. Now they know Modi’s vision and work. In these elections, the BJP will win with a complete majority and with more mandate than 2014,” Mr Modi had said.

Even BJP president Mr Shah has said that his party is expecting to win 300 seats.

However, Mr Madhav indicated that the BJP might not be repeating its 2014 performance, when it won 282 seats. “If we get 271 seats on our own, we will be very happy,” he was quoted saying.

“With the NDA, we will have a comfortable majority,” Mr Madhav said.
