Want 50 per cent tickets for youth: JD(S) youth wing president Madhu Bangarappa
Bengaluru: The youth wing of JD(S) will demand 50 per cent of the tickets for youth in the run up to next year’s elections to the Legislative Assembly, says president Madhu Bangarappa.
He told the media this demand would be placed before state unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy as the party was keen to field new faces as part of its strategy to woo voters and therefore youth should be given preference in allotment of tickets.
Mr Madhu said as Chief Minister, Mr Kumaraswamy did not run the administration from the third floor of Vidhana Soudha but reached out to people through ‘Grama Vastavya’. For this reason, the wing had named their election campaign “Karnatakakke Kumaranna” (Kumaranna for Karnataka) to send a message that the party need turn to New Delhi for decisions as it would be decided by Mr Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru.
The ‘Yuva Chetana’, a popular programme of the youth wing was being strengthened to garner the support of youth for Mr Kumaraswamy. Their main intention was to elect Mr Kumaraswamy as the next Chief Minister, he and therefore the achievements of Mr Kumaraswamy during his 20 month would be highlighted in all villages.
He claimed that hands of people would be strengthened if JD(S) comes to power in Karnataka and they need not depend on the union government for solution when it comes to river Krishna or Cauvery issues. Both national parties were being controlled by their respective central leadership because of which they had failed to do justice to people.
The wing has planned state-level conventions in important cities to galvanize the support of youth. Promises like waiving farmers loan and job creation would be taken to all corners of the state through the wing's flagship programme of “Karnattakke Kumaranna”.
He said that the BJP leaders are crossing swords before coming to power in the state. The saffron party was under wrong notion that it would sweep the Karnataka polls as they did in UP.
