Vijayawada: Politicos to use special buses to transport cash

According to Chief Electoral Officer of AP, Gopala Krishna Dwive-di, they had seized about Rs 97.26 crore till April 5.

Vijayawada: For the past few days, the transportation of huge amounts of money belonging to AP politicians, to be used to buy the votes, has been seized by the election duty officers across the state and also in Telangana state.

According to Chief Electoral Officer of AP, Gopala Krishna Dwivedi, they had seized about Rs 97.26 crore till April 5, after the announcement of the election code. He informed that they had seized 92 kg of gold, 267 kg silver and 19,406 litres of liquor worth nearly Rs 21 crore. He also said that they had seized 1,203 kg of ganja and Rs 5.46 crore worth of various other articles.

On Thursday, the election officials seized nearly Rs 5 crore, which was being transported to distribute to the voters in AP.

Anantapur district officials seized about Rs 1.75 crore at a toll plaza with the help of Karnat-aka police at Bhagepalli, Karnataka state.

Visakha Task force officials seized Rs 15 lakh which was being transported for distribution to voters. The task force seized Rs 1.5 lakh and some election material from two persons — Kamila Venkata Subba Raju and Ravipati Ramachandra Varma.

In Srikakulam district, flying squads, police and other officials had seized Rs 25.80 lakh from a political party. As many as 1,075 liquor bottles in Krishna district were co-nfiscated by the static surveillance teams, whi-le they were trying to transport it to distribute in Velpucharla in Musunuru mandal.

Adding to this, Rs 2 crore had been seized by the Telangana police while transporting the amount to eastern AP by two employees of a private company. A case was registered with the inclusion of a ruling TD senior leader of AP also.

Politicians plan to tra-nsport the huge amounts in the special bus services booked by them. There is less chance of checking the buses completely at check posts and the police would face traffic jam issues as nearly 3,500 buses will be travelling towards Andhra Pradesh on April 9 and10.

The checking officers would also face trouble as the voters will be on an emotional high as well.
