Jayalalithaa replaces 12 candidates
Chennai: AIADMK stalwarts O.S. Manian and S. Semmalai will fight the Assembly elections from Vedaranyam and Mettur constituencies as party chief J. Jayalalithaa replaced 12 candidates, including three in Puducherry. In separate statement on Wednesday, Ms Jayalalithaa said party spokesman C.R. Saraswathi will contest from Pallavaram in place of C.V. Elangovan, while she nominated Mayor Rajan Chellappa from Madurai North in place of M.S. Pandian, who was announced earlier.
She said former health minister Semmalai will be the party’s candidate from Mettur, replacing A Chandrashekaran, while Mr Manian, a former MP, will replace R Giridharan in Vedaranyam constituency. She also appointed Mr Manian as the party’s district secretary of Nagapattinam.
The AIADMK chief announced B Satyanarayanan as the party candidate from T Nagar in Chennai in place of Ms Saraswathi Rengasamy, N. Murugumaran in Kattumannarkovil and S. Paunraj in Poompuhar. While S. Kamraj will be the party’s new candidate in Mannargudi replacing T Sudha, A Nanjilmurugesan will contest the elections for the AIADMK in place of Ms Tarathi Samson in Nagercoil.
On Tuesday, she nominated former education minister Vaigai Chelvan from Arupukkottai. She also effected changes in candidates in three constituencies in Puducherry.
