Supreme Court takes up cash for vote' scam

Supreme Court issued notice to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on a special leave petition filed by YSR Congress Party MLA Alla Rama Krishna Reddy in the cash-for-vote scam case.

A bench of Justices S.A. Bobde and L. Nageswara Rao issued the notice and sought his reply on the SLP which is directed against an order of the Hyderabad High Court quashing the trial court verdict for a probe. The petitioner prayed for registration of a case against the CM under the the Prevention of Corruption Act contending that the court had erroneously rejected his plea.

Report confirmed CM Naidu’s voice
In his SLP, Mr. Reddy said Revanth Reddy MLA was caught red-handed on video tapes while he was trying to offer a bribe to Anglo-Indian MLA Stephenson to vote for TDP MLC candidate in 2015. He said after the Forensic Lab confirmed that the voice in the tape was that of TDP supremo, he sought prosecution of Mr Naidu and the ACB court has given the consent for probe.

On appeal by Mr. Naidu, he said the High Court quashed the order. The petitioner Mr. Reddy contended that the High Court had erred in its order and said the cash-for-vote will fall within the ambit of anti-corruption law. He sought quashing of the High Court order and a direction to register a case against Mr Naidu.
