Dry port to come up at Bibinagar

This will help cut transport costs and transit time, spur-ring investment in nearby areas.

Hyderabad: The new dry port announced by the Centre will come up at Bibinagar in Nalgonda district, about 40 km from the city on the Warangal highway.

After the bifurcation of undivided AP, Telangana was left with no sea port and the Centre offered to set up a dry port to compensate for it.

Bibinagar beat Amanagal in Mahbubnagar district and Kandukur in Ranga Reddy district to get the dry port. Its proximity to Hyderabad was the clinching factor.

A dry port is an inland terminal connected by rail or road to a sea port and provides services for handling, temporary storage, inspection and customs clearance for international freight. This will help cut transport costs and transit time, spur-ring investment in nearby areas.
