BJP starts polling Telangana unit to find Kishan Reddy's successor
Hyderabad: The BJP has started collecting opinions of party leaders from Telangana for the appointment of a new state unit president to replace G. Kishan Reddy who has completed two terms.
BJP secretary Krishna Das, incharge of Telangana state party affairs, arrived at the state party headquarters on Sunday and started meeting leaders individually.
Telangana BJP leaders have started distancing themselves from the alliance with the Telugu Desam and want the party to grow independently and take on the TRS in the 2019 general elections.
Party sources said Mr Das will continue the exercise on Monday and report to party president Amit Shah. “We expect the state unit presidents for Telangana and AP will be appointed in the next few days, before the national executive meeting on March 19 and 20 in Delhi,” a BJP source, said.
The names doing the rounds for the TS BJP president, include MLC Ramachandra Rao, former Legislature Party lea-der Y. Laxminarayana, ge-neral secretary P. Chandrasekhar and spokesperson Krishnasaagar Rao. All of them met Mr Das and presented their views.
It is being said that Mr Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will select the new state presidents after consulting Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Mr Kishan Reddy.
