Chennai: DMK president M.K. Stalin has claimed that the by-election to 21 Assembly constituencies are likely to be held along with the Lok Sabha election, when the government collapses if the Supreme Court verdict goes against the 11 MLAs. “If the verdict of the Supreme Court, which is likely to be delivered soon, goes against the 11 MLAs, the government will collapse. In that case, the by-election would be held along with the Lok Sabha election,” Stalin said.
Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said it has become the habit of the Prime Minister to make assurances before the elections. And with the election around would Modi promise to take steps to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET, Stalin asked. “Or will Edappadi K. Palaniswami (Chief Minister) who is gearing up to have electoral alliance with the BJP ask the PM’s assurance to ensure the President’s assent for NEET exemption, as a condition for alliance?” Stalin asked.
TN Assembly had unanimously passed a bill to exempt students from the State from appearing for NEET and to continue the single-window counselling system for admission into MBBS and BDS courses. The government had sent the Assembly resolution to the President for assent.
