Rs 2,548 crore allocated for TN rail work: BJP

The party even organised a rally at Virugambakkam in the evening to explain about the Union Budget to the people.

Chennai: Facing flak from the Opposition parties and also in a bid to dispel false notions among the people, the BJP on Tuesday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi government has ensured a higher budgetary allocation of Rs 2,548 crore for railway modernisation in Tamil Nadu in the last full Union Budget compared to only Rs 879 crore during the UPA regime.

“This is a big boost and will support TN people,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has claimed. The enhanced allocation, she said, would help the state to achieve better standards. “Clean platforms and trains, efficient services are the Hallmark of Indian Railways,” she said and thanked Mr Modi and Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal.

The party even organised a rally at Virugambakkam in the evening to explain about the Union Budget to the people. Consider just demand of electricity board workers:

Turning to the proposed strike announced by a section of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board workers affiliated to the BMS and CITU, from February 16, she said the state government should consider the “just demand” of 2.57 per cent hike in wages as agreed upon by the management and unions.

“It can't be said that Tangedco is making losses anymore. The Centre's timely intervention has helped Tangedco to recover and tide over the loses. It has benefited to the tune of Rs.10,000 after the state government joined the UDAY (Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana) and the loses got minimised further. At present the debt burden accounts to Rs. 3,000 crore and this is likely to decrease as the organisation in marching towards profit,” Dr Tamilisai added.
