Bengaluru: Gowda Bahu Bhavani settles for a ZP seat
HASSAN: Ms Bhavani Revanna, daughter-in-law of Janata Dal (Secular) president H D Deve Gowda, became the fifth member of his family to plunge into electoral politics when she filed her nomination papers for Halekote zilla panchayat seat on Saturday.
Her husband and former minister H.D. Revanna represented Halekote before moving to Holenarasipura to contest elections to the Legislative Assembly in 1994.
Soon after submitting her papers, she told Deccan Chronicle that she made up her mind to contest on Friday night in the wake of pressure from local JD(S) leaders.
Her earlier attempts to foray into electoral politics went in vain though he was keen to contest from KR Nagar Assembly constituency in Mysuru, KR Pet Assembly segment in Mandya, and Belur seat in Hassan.
Her father-in-law was reportedly against fielding another member of his family fearing such a move would boomerang on JD(S) which faced criticism of being a family-run party.
